Meaning	The son of Grundy. This variant strongly ramified in South Lancashire, and has extended itself in every direction. It is said that Bury is the home of this particular stock. The son of Gundred or Gundry, a once common but now forgotten first name, but it has immortalized itself in Mrs. Grundy. Grundy seems gradually to have ousted Gundry, although both exist as last names.
