Meaning The girdler, a maker of waistbands or belts. A girdler's glid seems to have existed in all the larger towns. The 'girdellers' formed part of the procession (1415) in the York Pagent. At Norwich, in 1533, they walked with the coverlet-weavers and darnick-weavers; at Chester, with tthe poynters, cardmakers, and hatters.
