Summary/Contribute

Meaning Local: Of Dymock, a parish in county Gloucester. Some claim this family (Dymoec) descended from Tudor Trevor, lord of Whittington, in Shropshire, from whom sprang David ap Madoc, commonly called Dai, whence the gradual corruption Dai-madoc, Damoc, Dymoc, Dymock.
A corruption of 'Dia Madoc,' that is, David, the son of Madoc, 'Dia' being the diminutive of David among the Welsh. 'Madoc' is derived from mad, good, with the termination 'oc' affixed, which has the same effect as English termination 'y.'
