Meaning	The son of Walkelin. Used to be a personal name. The 'l' was gradually lost, but in the effort to preserve it, it was resolved into 'n,' and Wanklyn bacame the later English form. Where the 'l' was entirely lost, the name took the forms of Wakelin and Wakeling. In Wakeling the 'g' is exceresent as in Wareing or Jennings.
