Meaning Local: from the Castle of Lickprivick in the parish of Kilbride, Lanarkshire. The Castle was from time immemorial possessed by the family of Lickprivick of that ilk. The family made a considerable figure long before the time of Robert Bruce; one of the descendants was printer to James VI. To this ancient family was granted the heritable title of Sergeantry and Coronership in the Lordship of Kilbride; the charter is dated 1397, and was renewed by James I, James IV, and James VI.
