Meaning	The son of Jordan. This great first name, that has made such a strong impression on English and West European nomenclature, received its impetus, like Ellis (Elles), John, and Baptist, from the Crusades. Flasks of Jordan water were brought home to be used for fontal purposes. John the Baptist was the second Elias, and the baptizer of Jesus Christ.
