Last Name HIGMANSummary/Contribute |
Meaning |
The son of Hickman. The pedigree of the extinct baronet family Hickman, of Gainsborough, is traced to Robertt Fitz-Hickman, lord of the manors of Bloxham and Wickham, county Oxford. Hence the name must have been originally a bapismal appellation. Higman is the result of laziness in pronunciation. Another possible origin for the name is 'the servant of Hick.
