The son of Hamon or with excrescent 'd' (as in Simond), Hammond. A very popular font-name in its day, now all but entirely forgotten. Nevertheless its diminutives, Hamelot, Hamonet, and Hameline, survived thill the 18th century as font-names, the parent having lapsed into oblivion.
