Meaning	The conder, one who signals to boats from a beight the diraction taken by shoals of herring or pilchards; from 'con,' to con, to observe closely. For intrusive 'd' see Pinner and Pinder, ribbon and riband, Simmons and Simmonds. Conders were persons stationed upon high places near the sea coast to watch the shoals for fishermen, at the time of herring-fishing. The name is derived from the French 'conduire,' to conduct.
