Meaning The son of Blaze. St. Blaise was the patron saint of wool-combers, and his festival (Feb. 3) was faithfully commemorated in Yorkshire. A full-sized effigy of the bishop is carved in the principl entranceto to the Bradford Exchange. As a font-name Blaise, or Blaze, just managed to survive the Reformation. Gil Blas has immortalized the name in lilterature.
